About Stowe Boyd

Stowe’s enormous head. What could be going on in there?

My principal obsession is the ecology of work and the anthropology of the future.

My approach is to combine research, analytic and conjectural frameworks, and futures scenarios and other tools to help clients answer their most strategic questions.

I’m the managing director of Work Futures Research, a consulting group, and the editor and chief contributor to the workfutures.io newsletter.

Yes, hashtag. See this.

I’ve been studying work and work technology for the past three decades. Along the way I coined the terms hashtag’, work management’, work technology’, social tools’, publicy’, edgling’, and spreadbase’.

I served as president and sold three companies along the way, too.

In the past, I was VP of research for GigaOm, consultant to many companies including Google, IBM, Microsoft, Cisco, AOL, and dozens more, too many to mention. I served as president of the blogging pioneer Corante.

I’ve spoken at dozens of conferences and events worldwide, including Web 2.0, Enterprise 2.0, GigaOM Net:Work, Reboot, Next, Mesh, Shift, Lift, SIBOS, Defrag, SxSW, SocialNow, VivaTech, and various TEDx events.

Other than workfutures.io my obsessions include workings.co (the tools we use to think, write, and remember), beaconstreets.com (the art, culture, and politics of Beacon NY), and stoweboyd.io (art, politics, economics, anthropology, and culture).

Very studious. I also was an adjunct professor at BU teaching computer science for five years or so.

I’ve been awarded a Master of Science in Computer Science, Boston University, and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Natural Science, University of Massachusetts Amherst, with honors, magna cum laude; Phi Beta Kappa.

I have over 250 stitches in my head, mostly from brain surgery, and none from karate, although I have black belt in Shitō-ryū.
